Support the students at Bruh Tesfa

Africa is a land of incredible beauty with numerous, natural treasures — most important of all is its diverse population. Although the people have been torn apart by countless tragedies, they are resilient. They seek peace and hold onto hope. That’s why Bruh Tesfa — Bright Hope — is so important to the youth in northern Ethiopia.

Father Paul Reilly, project manager for Bruh Tesfa writes: we believe that it is mainly through education that young people can be empowered to transform their lives and that of society. With these powerful words, the staff takes direction and action to help make life better for the next generation of citizens in Adigrat. For these youth the ability to go to school is key to accomplishing what their parents never could.

Bruh Tesfa — Bright Hope — works for youth under immense pressures of social, pastoral, economic problems. I thank the Missionaries of Africa and donors for this program.

Bishop Medhin, Diocese of Adigrat, Ethiopia

Dear Mr. Doe,

And we are grateful for our Bishop’s kind words and your support of our programs to help our missionaries in places racked by war, poverty and hunger.

Today at Bruh Tesfa we must raise $32,000 for materials to help the students. Although it doesn’t sound like much it means so much more when we can put books in the hands of a child, provide sports equipment or supply classrooms with computer materials. Families pay a nominal fee but much more is needed.

I ask you to please pray for Father Paul, Bruh Tesfa staff, and all our young scholars. They face challenge after challenge every day. Through your help we can serve people who are misunderstood, in dire poverty, or totally neglected. With your generous gifts we can minister to people yearning for peace.

One problem that continues to haunt us is our inability to help girls receive the same education as their brothers. Unlike many boys, girls don’t have the same opportunities to pursue an education. At Bruh Tesfa one of our primary goals is to demolish the barriers that stop them from achieving their full potential. We work very hard to help them excel in their studies, pass exams, go to university, and eventually get them fully employed. Education is critical in lifting them and their families out of poverty.

We are proud of the students who graduated last year. And we hope to help many more. But for too many families, educating children remains an expense they simply cannot afford. Without your help most will spend their days in poverty. And for the girls — they will be married off young; raising children even though they are children themselves.

That’s why your financial help to assist us in raising the $32,000 needed for this mission is so important. Join us in celebrating the graduates’ new found opportunities — possibilities that their parents did not have. They’ve broken a cycle of poverty that stretches back centuries!

You’re invited to join us on this journey and we hope we can count on your financial support. Also, in your families or neighborhoods, you too, can help children reach their full potential — read to them, read with them, take them to your local library, and give them a little of your time and wisdom.
