We Are The Missionaries Of Africa
Dear Friends,
Please take a moment to read this letter! I have received an urgent communication from one of our missionaries working in Uganda and it is critical that I respond to him as quickly as possible!
By now, I am sure you are aware of the crisis among children living in rural communities as well as urban areas throughout Africa. Because of the epidemic of diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, millions of boys and girls have been left orphaned and alone.
Nearly all of these children have witnessed the slow and painful deaths of their parents -- something no child should ever have to endure. Once their parents have died, many of these young ones have then been abandoned by distant relatives and friends.
Imagine the toll such an experience takes on the minds, hearts and spirits of these innocent boys and girls. Imagine the deep wounds and scars such a tragedy leaves upon their lives.
It is for these children that I am writing to you!
I have received a letter from Fr. Piet Hooyschuur, one of our missionaries living in Uganda in East Africa. There, Fr. Piet is ministering to some of the millions of children who have been left orphaned, abandoned and alone as a result of -- not only disease -- but war and armed conflict as well.
"These children -- especially girls – desperately need a home,” Fr. Piet writes. “Not a facility that is a‘transit’ place, but a home where they can stay until they are old enough to live on their own.”
With girls being so vulnerable in African society, I could understand Fr. Piet’s concerns. Too many of them are abused and subjected to all kinds of injustice. A facility for young girls is urgently needed!
"We have located a site just outside of Kampala,” he continues, “where we can build the facility. Not only will this be a home for orphaned and abandoned girls but for those who are sick as well. We will provide each child with shelter, clothing, food, medical care
and education.”
"The need is overwhelming and urgent! Is there any way you can help us?”
Fr. Piet goes on to write that three and a half acres have been donated for the building, and the site has access to water and electricity. What an incredible blessing it will be for girls who are homeless!
My dear friend, is there some way you can help us reach out to provide a place of refuge for these girls who have already suffered so much? My hope is that we can raise at least $45,000 to help the children at Fr. Piet’s mission in Uganda as well as the orphaned children in other missions throughout Africa.
Funds are needed not only to purchase building supplies for the girls’ new home, but also to provide furnishings (beds, tables and chairs, and other items). Please know that whatever you send -- whether it is a large gift or a small one -- your help will be an act of kindness and mercy towards those in need.
On behalf of Fr. Piet and the children in his mission, thank you for whatever you can do at this critical time!
Your Missionary Friend,
Denis P. Pringle
Director of Development
P.S. Please let me hear back from you as soon as possible. I need to respond to Fr. Piet quickly!
