December Appeal

December 6, 2010

Dear

The year in review… it is a common practice of assessing and evaluating how an organization has grown and what could have been done differently to expand its mission.  As scary as it may seem, self reflection can be a good thing.  Our Advisory Board meets twice a year to reflect and study our fund raising strategies and make recommendations for the forthcoming year.  These meetings address many questions…such as… are we being faithful to our mission, are we excellent (not just good) stewards of our resources and are we genuinely responding to the needs of our sisters and brothers in Africa.   We do all this because of an intense sense of gratitude and accountability to you our donor.

As you know, the year 2010 was a financially challenging time for many of us.  We may have a family member, a friend or a neighbor who has lost their job, others are insecure about their job’s future and some are even on the verge of losing their home.  With all these concerns, I’m overwhelmed by your faithful support and selfless giving to our mission.
Please let me share with you some of the projects funded through your many gifts.

  • The Donald Richard Health Center requested $23,500.00 for the construction of an out-patient unit for the people of the Nakwabi, Ghana.  The goal is to provide pre-natal care, child care and preventive services.
  • The amount of $7,500.00 was requested by the Busaru Health Center for the purchase of Water Reservoir Tanks to provide the patients and healthcare workers constant water in a sanitary and hygiene environment.
  • Our Provincial Superior, Rev. Rudi Lehnertz, M.Afr. wrote to me about supporting a project raising $18,644.00 to purchase a generator for Kisubi Hospital in Kisubi, Uganda.
  • The Kiziba Dispensary in Ghana needed $10,000.00 for water tanks.  Fr. Mutebi said “buying water tanks we will be able to harvest clean and safe water for our people”.

These projects are a small testimony of how we have been wise stewards of your donations and how we have been faithful and honest to our mission of preaching, teaching, healing and building. Besides the above projects, we have used your contributions and prayers for the many needs that have changed the lives of our brothers and sisters in Africa.

“Ask and you shall receive”.  And now I come to you once again with a new project request.  Fr.  Anthony Amonako-Attah sent me a grant proposal requesting $15,000.00 for the construction of a Borehole Well.  You may be thinking what is a “borehole’?  A borehole is a generalized term for  any narrow shaft bored in the ground, either vertically or horizontally.  The borehole is constructed for many different purposes including the storage and extraction of water.  This is exactly the reason why Fr. Amonako-Attah and the local community need to construct a borehole well.  During the non-rainy season, the pond usually dries up and access to water is very limited.  With a borehole well water can be stored and pumped as needed for the very essential things of life, drinking, bathing, washing and harvesting.

We all know what is it like to turn on our kitchen or bathroom faucets and get the immediate relief of flowing water.  But last week our water was shut off for two periods of eight hours.  In the face of no water available, we realized how we’re blessed (and forget to say thank you!).  I want our sisters and brothers to have this simple comfort and I hope you feel the same way too!

So I’m asking for your help to ease things for Fr. Amonako in Ghana. Any gift will be greatly appreciated by our Missionaries and the local community of Ejisu-Ashanti, Ghana.

Each day I give thanks to God for you and for all you do for our brothers and sisters in Africa.

                                                                                    Your missionary friend,

                                                                                    Denis P. Pringle
                                                                                    Director of Development
