Mityana Water
When we here in America feel thirsty for a glass of cold refreshing water, does getting it involve having to walk
a half a mile or so, to a stagnant pool where animals also come to drink, to
fill a dirty yellow plastic container and walk the same distance back??
Well, this is what the school kids and their teachers, sisters, priests, and
parish staff and parishioners have to go through every day, in Naama, Mityana,
Uganda.
St. Mary's parish church and school are located in one of the so-called "dry
areas", 120 miles from Kampala. During
the dreaded "dry season", if the primary and secondary school children want a
sufficient supply of drinking water, to quench their unending thirst during the
day, they are forced to close down the school for a few precious hours, as the
students head out to collect drinking water for the day.
We received a request to help the people of Naama, Mityana obtain four
water tanks that contain 8000 liters
each. If we are able to raise the necessary funds to provide them with those
tanks... Guess what??
- The children's school schedule will no longer be interrupted.
- They will have clean, safe, healthier water to drink.
- They will be protected from life-threatening diseases that often come from
unclean stagnant water.

Would you consider giving a donation
equivalent to what you would pay for your clean water supply
for the 6 months of the Ugandan dry season?? Please give it some thought, and
look at these pictures. |
